Teeth And Mouth Care

Most Common Disease Of The Mouth: Pyorrhoea , known as gum inflammation is one of the commonest diseases in the world. Though the disease is superficial involving just the gums, it can progressively spread to the deeper tissues, i.e. the periodontal tissue, which hold the teeth to the bones. Bleeding gums is the onset of this disease and sometimes the patient is not aware of suffering from it. The gums of the person suffering from this disease will have red and spongy gums, and the gums recede back from the enamel. This destroys the bone structure, loosening the support and causing further decay. This diseases causes the mouth to give out a rather foul smell. It is mostly at this stage that the patient realizes the problem and goes to the dentist, but then it is rather too late to reverse the damage that has been done.

Other Related Diseases And Conditions:
Toothache is pain in the teeth or jaw, caused by tooth or jaw problems, such as cavity, gum disease, a cracked tooth or an exposed tooth root, etc. The severity of the pain can go from mild to chronic to sharp and its intensity varies, depending on the damage done to the infected area. The excruciating pain can be aggravated by chewing something, or maybe drinking some cold or hot liquid. By taking an x ray, it can be determined whether the pain has been caused by a tooth or jaw problem. It is not necessary that the pain is due to the tooth or jaw problem. Pain around the teeth and jaws can be the symptoms of the heart, ear or maybe sinuses. For example, the pain of the angina (that is when the supply of oxygen is inadequate to the heart muscles due to the narrowing down of the arteries)the pain is in the arm or in the chest in most of the patients. But, in some patients, this disease affects the tooth.
Cavities occur when there is tooth decay. With tooth decay, the structure of the teeth gets destroyed. Tooth decay affects the enamel, which is the other layer of the teeth and the dentin layer of the teeth. As it is known that carbohydrates and consuming sweets is destructive for the teeth, it combines to form plaque which clings to the teeth and becomes acidic, thus destroying the enamel, creating holes in the teeth, known as cavities. It is most common in adults when decaying around the fillings of the teeth get affected because many adults lacked the benefit of fluoride. Lack of dental care too was one of the reasons why they may have had some fillings in their teeth. Over the years, those fillings may weaken and fracture, allowing bacteria to accumulate in the tiny hidden crevices.
Teething is referred as to 'cutting ' of the teeth. It is a process in which an infant's teeth erupt and break through the gums. Teething is medically known as “odonotiasis”. The onset of the symptoms precedes the eruption of the tooth by days. It usually erupts when the baby is 6 months old, but at times is erupts when the infant is between 4 to 10 months old. Some dentists term this as a family pattern of early, average or late teethers. A rare condition, when the baby is born with a tooth present, is known as “natal” teeth. Usually, this malformed tooth is a unique and extraordinary event in an otherwise normal child. The natal tooth is often loose and is removed prior to the discharge of the infant from the hospital in order to lessen the risk of aspiration into the lungs.
Another painful disease of the mouth is canker sores. Canker sores are small ulcer craters. It is very painful and sensitive and when present in the mouth, it becomes difficult to eat food because contact with food brings a burning sensation to the mouth. These sores are medically known as aphthous ulcers or aphthous stomatitis. These sores occur at any age and is generally most prevalent amongst teenagers. Women are more susceptible to canker sores than men. Genetic studies prove that it is an inherited disease, that is why it is often seen why family members share the same condition. Over 20% of the population have the canker sores at any one time. It is usually found on the insides of the cheek and lips, the tongue and the insides of the gum. Some people may have the recurrence of the sores once or twice a year, and some may have continuous bouts of it.

Not everyone can have sparkling white teeth. These stains occur due to eternal agents. Stains occur mostly due to the presence of roughened enamel, decreased mastication, irregular teeth and poor hygiene. The severity of staining of teeth among tobacco users does not depend on the quantity of the tobacco used but on the oral hygiene of the person. A yellow, dull staining of the teeth results from turmeric in food stuffs. Tartar or calculus is one of the most common stain. It is formed all around the teeth and it is hard like cement giving out a bad odor. It can be removed by scaling.
