Summer Hair Care

The summer sun and the summer humidity are your hair's worst enemies. With the beginning of summer, you start experiencing numerous hair problems like split ends, dry and brittle hair. Having glorious, shiny hair is not only a matter of genetics—it is also a matter of good hair care. It means that you should start paying attention to your hair. Here are some handy summer care tips you can use to prevent damage to your hair.

Summer Hair Care Tips:

  • If you do not want to cut your hair, remember to wear a scarf, cap or a hat, which is loose and allows blood circulation, it protects your hair from the damaging heat.
  • Make sure to trim the damaged ends of your hair, if your hair is frizzy, keep it short during the summer as the heat tends to frizz hair more. Keeping short hair during summer lets you enjoy the summer heat, without any worries.
  • Keep your hair knotted or wear buns to avoid total exposure of the sun.
  • Try using sun hair mask, after you have exposed your hair to the sun for a long time.
  • If you are planning to stay out in the sun for long, use a protective sunscreen on your hair before you set out.
  • Avoid using hot water to wash your hair. Instead, use normal water.
  • Avoid using additional heat on your hair, like hair straighteners or a blow dryer cause it dries the natural oils from the hair leaving it coarse.
  • Avoid using alcohol on your hair, as it tends to dry the hair further more. Use natural products.
  • Shampooing your hair on an every day basis makes it dry. Try not to do so.
  • Use a moisturizing shampoo instead of the usual one, as it will be more gentle on the hair.
  • After towel drying tresses apply a drop or two of a great leave-in product, to the palms of your hands. Rub your hands together and then distribute the leave-in product throughout your strands.
  • Instead of using shampoo on your hair try powder treatment. Spray some baby powder on your hair and brush it out.
  • Condition your hair with a conditioner after each wash.
  • Hair products that claim to provide volume and bounce to the hair, dry it infact.
  • Chlorine causes severe dryness and damage to the hair. So before you go for swimming, dampen your hair with normal water so that it reduces the absorption of chlorine. Also after a swim, use a clarifying shampoo to wash off the chlorine residue in your hair.
  • Hair care products designed to add shine, may only add shimmer but not necessarily add moisture. Be sure to read all ingredients on the hair product labels to understand what benefits the product is designed to provide to your strands.
  • Jojoba oil applied to the ends of your strands will help soften them. Jojoba oil also works wonders on frizzy hair. Jojoba oil can also be utilized as a pre-shampoo treatment or applied to dry strands for protection during the day.
  • Be careful using shine products to control frizzies. They often contain silicone and can coat your hair after just a few times. This will only make the problems worse in the long run.
  • Staying hydrated is important for healthy hair as well as your overall health, so make sure that you are taking enough water.
