All About Brushes

Makeup Brush Tips:

  1. Use a big soft brush to blend the colour on to your cheeks. Bring out the creative make-up artist in you with a good-quality set of brushes and a basic make-up tool kit.
  2. A well made brush will last you a lifetime. Wash it weekly with baby shampoo to prevent oils and make-up from building up in the ferrule, that is the metal part at the base of the bristles.
  3. Buy a brush with a long-handled one with a medium-size, dome-shaped head, it will help you follow and shape the contour of your cheekbone better to give it a more natural look. You will find that make up brushes comprise of natural animal hair, synthetic bristles or a combination of both.
  4. For a more natural finish look, buy a foundation brush with with a blend of natural and synthetic bristles.
  5. A synthetic concealer brush is more ideal since they don't soak up make up and give you a complete perfect finish.
  6. An eye shadow brush should be soft, smooth and silky, not hard or coarse.
  7. Try to apply skincare with brushes, it gives the skin a better application.
  8. Firmer fibers tend to give a faster application than softer fibers.
  9. When using a brush by dipping into pressed powder products, like eye shadows, do not push or force the brush into the compact as it breaks the fibers. The best thing to do is swipe the powder gently from side to side or brush the powder in a circular motion to gather powder on the brush.
  10. To give your eyes that smoky look, blend with two brushes. With the first brush you apply the colour to the eyes, and use the second one to blend in the colour.
  11. While you are applying make up, try to hold the brush away from the hair, this will give you greater control in application and with your hands out of the way, greater visibility.
  12. After applying make you, you want to keep your brushes in your bag before washing, be sure to store the brushes used for liquid or cream products separately from the ones used for powder products as it helps avoid the cream from getting into the other brushes. If you are using the same bag for both types of brushes, then wrap the brushes meant for cream products in a tissue or paper and toss it into the bag.

Tips On Cleaning Makeup Brushes:
Make up brushes can collect a lot of dirt and germs if kept dirty and it can be carried to the face. Frequent washing of your make up brushes can keep them clean and your face healthy.

  1. Warm the bristles under warm running water.
  2. Apply a small amount of shampoo on the bristles and lather.
  3. Run water over the shampoo. You will find that the water leaving the brush will have old make up content.
  4. Continue washing the brush until the water leaving the brush is clear.
  5. Dust the water from the brush. Then allow it to dry naturally.
