More DIY Pedicure Recipes:

c. Vanilla Foot Butter:
Composition: 4 tbsp / 60 ml almond, olive, jojoba, soybean or calendula oil; 1 vanilla bean, chopped into 1/4 inch pieces; 1 tbsp / 15 ml beeswax; 2 tbsp / 30 ml cocoa butter; 1 tbsp / 15 ml anhydrous lanolin; 20 drops geranium, rosemary, or peppermint essential oil.
Yield: Approximately 1/2 cup / 120 ml.
Preparation:

  1. In a small saucepan warm the oil over low heat.
  2. Add the chopped vanilla bean, cover, and allow steeping for 1 hour.
  3. Remove from heat and strain. Iy's all right if you see tiny vanilla bean seeds - they're harmless. Save the vanilla bean for other uses. Add the oil back to the pan and add the beeswax, cocoa butter, and lanolin and heat until just melted.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in essential oil if you desire. If left plain, it will smell like white chocolate, sweet and yummy.

Application: Scoop out approximately 1 tsp / 5 ml, rub between your palms to warm and improve its spreading ability, then massage into feet as necessary to keep them wonderfully moisturised and smooth.
Storage: Store in a 4-ounce jar. No refrigeration is necessary. This butter may harden in cold weather, but will soften upon skin contact.

d. Super Rich All-Purpose Foot Cream:
Here's the recipe for the thickest cream. It has got real staying power and will keep your feet the softest they've ever been. It also doubles as a fantastic lip balm and dynamite cuticle conditioner.
Composition: 3 tbsp / 45 ml plus 1 tsp / 5 ml castor oil; 2 tsp / 10 ml beeswax; 15 drops peppermint essential oil; 15 drops of rosemary essential oil.
Yield: Approximately 1/4 cup / 60 ml.
Preparation: Over very low heat, blend the castor oil and beeswax in a small saucepan, and heat until the wax is just melted. Remove from burner and allow cooling a bit. Add the essential oil drops to the bottom of a 2-ounce jar., and then pour in the oil / wax mixture.
Application: Apply enough of this wonderfully thick cream to your feet covering your ankles and put on your socks.

e. Herbal Foot Bath:
There is nothing like a fragrant foot bath for refreshing tired feet. At the same time, it revitalizes the whole being, its warmth relaxes the body and the scent of the herbs calms the mind. Foot baths are also comforting if you have a cold.
Ingredients: 50 g mixed fresh herbs: peppermint, yarrow, pine needles, chamomile flowers, rosemary, houseleek; 1 litre / 4 cups boiling water; 15 ml / 1 tbsp borax; 15 ml / 1 tbsp Epsom salts;
Roughly chop the herbs, put them in a large bowl and pour in the boiling water. Leave to stand for 1 hour. Strain, and add to a basin containing about 1.75 litres / 7 1/2 cups hot water - the final temperature of the foot bath should be comfortably wamr. Stir in the borax and Epsom salts. Immerse the feet and soak for 15-20 minutes.

Variation: For a quick alternative foot bath, instead of making an infusion float fresh chamomile flowers and leaves in hot water. You could also use mint, marjoram, marigolds or rose petals. Or, for extra fragrance, try adding a few drops of an essential oil such as lavender to the water.

f. Green Tea Peppermint Soak:
Treat your feet with this home-made foot bath, which will soothe aching limbs and speed up circulation:
Boiling water; Green Tea (loose or bags); Peppermint oil.
Fill a bowl full of boiling water. Add five green tea bags - or two scoops of flaked green tea - and three drops of peppermint oil. Wait five minutes and check the water has cooled enough to put your feet in (if it hasnt, add some cool water). Soak your feet for five minutes. Get out, pat them dry and apply foot cream.
