Exercise Tips During Pregnancy:
If you choose to exercise during your pregnancy, make sure that you observe the following guidelines:

  • Check with your caregiver before you begin an exercise program.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing and a support bra.
  • Always include warm-up and cool-down periods.
  • Start slowly, gradually increasing the length and intensity of your exercise.
  • Stop and rest when you feel out of breath.
  • Choose activities with smooth, continuous movements rather than jerky, bouncy ones.
  • Avoid straining.
  • Stop if you feel pain or any other warning signs.
  • After the first trimester, do not lie on your back.
  • Do not hold your breath.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • As you get larger, avoid exercises that require balance.
  • Make sure that your pulse rate does not rise above 140 beats per minute.
  • Avoid exercising in hot, humid weather.
  • Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas.
