What are the chemical damages to hair

Chemical Damage To Hair:

In an age when access to parlours has become easier than it ever was, chemical hair damage is a growing concern. The following procedures can damage hair:
Curlers: Their repeated use causes traction alopecia (hair loss resulting from hair being pulled by force). Avoid using stiff nylon brushes, rollers and tying up your hair in ponytails or other styles that put pressure on the hair.
Straightening and perming: These procedures break the disulphide bonds in the hair shaft leaving it dry and lustreless.
Colours and highlights: In certain cases, chemical colours (even good quality ones) can cause a reaction on the scalp and lead to hair breakage.
Ironing: Did you know that the straightening iron used at home gives off close to 200 degrees Centigrade of heat? This can burn hair, breaking it at different levels.

Hair loss is often an internal disease. Patients often approach doctors with hair loss problems, oblivious to the underlying medical cause. Hypothyroidism, anaemia, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) are some medical conditions that result in thinning of hair or hair loss. In addition to the above mentioned conditions there are many other diseases and disorders that may result in unhealthy hair. Therefore, it is important to be aware and responsible. If hair loss persists for more than 3 months, consult a doctor who can examine your hair with the latest diagnostic equipment and methods and detect the reason for it.
