  1. Another type of foundation is spray foundation and is basically used for acne scarring and post surgical skin. It comes in different colours for different skin types and is used to keep the make-up intact for a long time. All you need to do is to spray over your make-up at any time.
  2. Liquid foundation comes in bottles and tubes and are easy to use. They come in liquid and oil based formulations and are good to cover up marks and blemishes. When this foundation is applied, it gives the skin a light sheen and a smooth finish.
  3. Emulsion foundation comes in tubes and it covers blemishes. It does not give a sheen like cream or liquid foundation. It is used for a variety of skin types.
  4. Use cream foundation for dry skin. They contain a heavy amount of cream and oil. They give a glossy finish and have moisturizing properties. This type of foundation provide heavy coverage to the skin.
  5. Cakes or stick foundation is used mostly for people who have extremely oily skin. It is solid and have great dry effect. It is good for covering scars and blemishes as the finish is a matt effect. Usually people who are exposed to heavy lighting and is popular for photographic work, like models, theatre artist’s and actors use this type of foundation. It is not suggested to use on an everyday basis as it is very heavy.
  6. If you are already using a foundation and don’t know what properties it has, put a drop of it in a dish of water. If it absorbs or melts into the water easily, then you know that it is a water based foundation and can be used for oily skin.
  7. When you have chosen the foundation that you think is right for your skin type, make sure to check it in daylight to get the correct result.
  8. The colour of skin changes just like the weather. Your skin will be slightly darker in the summer and lighter in the winter so you will need to mix two different colours of foundations before you achieve the right results.
  9. On darker skin, if the foundation looks too grey, then the conclusion is that the foundation is too light and too pink.
