Spa Basics

A spa can very commonly be described as water treatment which is also known as balneotherapy,or hydro massage therapy. There are different kinds of spas, We all know that going for a day to the spa is good for not only your lifestyle but also your health. It used to be an event only for women but nowadays more and more men are attending spa events and clubs. The good effects of a spa is that your psychological tension reduces after a good massage or spa treatment, it decreases the hormonal stress levels and increases the mood-enhancing chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. Therefore it is a positive way of dealing with stress, anxiety and negative emotions. Therefore a good spa treatment rejuvenates and re-invigorates the body with a positive attitude, it leads to the improvement of the function parameters in the body, like agility and mental stamina. when the body is stressed the hypothalamus ( The part of the brain that controls several body functions, including feeding, breathing, drinking, temperature, and the release of many hormones.) gets signals from the cerebral cortex as a result of which stress and steroid hormones are released from the endocrine glands. The rate of heart beat, breathing, blood pressure, metabolism and muscle tension is affected as it the activity of these organs that become faster and Blood gets transferred to the hands and the digestive system, therefore the blood is directed towards the larger muscles in the body. However the brain stops sending signals to the hypothalamus when it feels that there is no longer a threat to the body, therefore the rate of breathing, heartbeat and the blood pressure then drops to a normal level. People living a busy schedule with a heavy workload often have these feelings of danger for various reasons, as we live in a competitive and unsafe world, which eventually leads to stress; so it is natural that as human beings we all try to find a way to destress ourselves, to bring ourselves to state of normalcy and more over relaxation. a good spa treatment provides one with relief, and biologically releases neurotransmitters such as endorphins and adrenaline which helps the mind and body to produce positive results. It has a positive effect on the immune system thus reducing the risk of diseases in the body, it boosts the blood circulation getting rid of toxins from the body and harmonizes the body functions, exfoliation, moisturization, anti-oxidation are some of the features of a spa treatment; so in conclusion a spa is more than just beauty treatment it is a lifestyle change.

The difference between a salon treatment and a Spa treatment:
A salon treatment may include several features of a spa treatment however there is a major difference between a salon treatment and a Spa treatment; although the words day spa and salon are used interchangeably. The first difference is that in a salon and spa are two different ventures. Take for example a quick treatment wil include a haircut that is preceded by a ten minute hair massage and then washng your hair with shampoo, or a facial that would include a half an hour massage a on the face, followed by the use of an exfoliating scrub etc., however a spa treatment is much more extensive and a treatment handled on a larger scale that requires more effort and time to enhance the body’s function parameters; which is the entire idea of a spa. While a salon treatment is an external beautification process which has short lived effects a spa treatment has a scientific edge to biologically enhance the functions of the body. A beauty treatment makes you look good hence you feel good but a spa treatment makes you feel good hence it makes you look good. A spa treatment also includes professional advice with regards to skin care , sleep. eating habits, therefore a spa treatment suggests a lifestyle change which if followed religiously will lead to long term health benefits, whereas a beauty treatment is more about grooming rather unlike a spa treatment which is meant to have therapeutic effects. Going back to the statement that salon and spa are two different ventures because a salon contains the basic commodities and amenities of beautification while a spa is much more expanded with their technology and has room for more people. A salon has one or two rooms where more or less people know what kind of a beautification process each one is going through as there is not much room for privacy however a spa accommodation is much more private and the treatments offered depend on the need and requirement of the individual with exceptions to personal choice as well. This may include offering complimentary beverages and appetizers or even a small restaurant where customers can have specially made meals. Salons tend to stick to the services it offers. Salons are more affordable than a spa. Do note that some places offer both a salon service and a spa service as well.
