Tips To Prevent Skin Darkening:

  • Always use a sunscreen before going out and avoid getting over-exposure to the sun. Wearing protective clothing like scarves and shirts or tops with long sleeves helps reduce the effects of tanning.
  • Drink lots of water and follow a healthy diet. Avoid fried and junk foods. Have carrot juice and tomato juice regularly. Include one green leafy vegetable at least once a day. Have a Vitamin B complex capsule plus a livogen capsule – at least for a month. These are harmless and have proved quite effective in a number of cases. Incorporate whole cereals, pulses, fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Do not use cosmetics that have colouring agents. Avoid make-up, or make it minimum.
  • Avoid fairness cosmetic creams, instead go for natural homemade remedies which are more effective. Most fairness creams today contain Hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is considered to be one of the most effective lightening agents as it has the ability to drastically reduce pigmentation. However, it can also cause the skin to lose its elasticity and in rare cases it has been known to cause contact dermatitis. It is therefore advisable that you do not use cosmetic products for fair skin as they almost always have harsh side effects.
  • Keep your face and body clean and healthy. Moisturise regularly and go for a nourishing face mask once every week. You can also have a salon facial done once in a month. Go for regular body massage to acquire an even-toned fair skin on your body.
  • Make sure that you have at least 6-7 hrs of sound sleep every night. Before bedtime cleanse your skin thoroughly and apply a light night cream to rejuvenate your skin at night.
  • Hair carries dust, oil and sometimes dandruff. None of these things contributes to a glowingly clear face. Wash your hair every 3 days and tie your hair back so that it is not in constant contact with the sides of your face or your forehead.
  • Take honey in some form. If you are plump, take a glass of honey and juice of half a lemon in water at room temperature. Alternatively, you can add honey to your toast instead of jam. Honey has Vitamin B-Complex that is essential for good skin colour. Yoghurt is a wonder food. Eat it as well as use it to massage your skin. It tones up both dry and oily skin.
  • If you have acne problem, do not pick on pustules as these will leave marks.
  • Avoid using strong soaps on your face.
  • Soak fenugreek (methi seeds) in a glass of water overnight. Drink the water and eat the seeds the next morning. This improves the complexion.
  • Even morning walk, yoga or meditation also contributes a lot to improve your beauty and complexion.
