Pranayama Techniques:

Ujayyi (hissing breath):

The purpose of Ujjayi is to help increase control over the breath and aid concentration. As you inhale and exhale, gently contract the back of the throat. Notice the sound and friction of the air rubbing at the back of the throat. Do not make the friction too rough or the hissing too loud.

After Your Pranayama Practice:

When you have finished your breathing practices always sit quietly for a few minutes. The mind will be very calm and still. Give yourself an opportunity to enjoy this wonderful peace, carrying the benefits into the rest of your life. Pranayama is the fourth step of Raja yoga and takes us from the physical practices to the mental practices of sense withdrawal, concentration and meditation.
