5.Scalp massage with warm oil:

  1. Massaging the scalp and hair is recommended to induce a healthy scalp as it nourishes the hair roots and hair, relieve mental fatigue, enhances mental clarity. There are certin herbs that are used for a healthy effect on the mind and the nervous system.
  2. A head massage done with Ayurvedic oils contributes to the healthy growth of hair, it improves concentration power and promotes sleep as well; Brahmi is extensively used both in supplements as well as in topical hair oils.
  3. Other Ayurvedic herbal hair oils consist of Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Bhringaraj (Eclipta Alba), Tulasi (Holy Basil), Ashwagandha (Winter Cherry), Sandalwood and Hibiscus. However these oils are only components of massage oil where the base oil is mainly sesame.
  4. Coconut oil is used to nourish hair for a darker hair color, thickness and growth.

The procedure of applying these oils:
Warm the oils that are going to be used for the scalp massage. Pour the oil on the palms and apply this oil evenly all over the scalp and around the hairline at the back when the oil has been applied evenly, massage the scalp with the help of the fingertips in circular motions. The oil should be kept on the scalp over night, however if that is not possible then it advisable to leave the scalp for a minimum period of 3 hours at least; for the scalp to absorb the nutrients. One should engage in this scalp massage at least twice a week.

According to Ayurveda, sleep imbalance occurs when the three principles of Ayurveda ( Vata, Pitta or Kapha ) are not in harmony or are out of balance. The massage is performed on one area of the head at a time in circular motions. Massage oils are generally combined with essential oils for this purpose.
