Unwanted Facial Hair Removal

Facial hair can be very distressing and embarrassing problem, and it generally worsens from the age of about 40, when women’s bodies produce progressively less of the female hormone oestrogen and more of the male hormone testosterone. The amount of facial hair you have is the result of several factors. First, the darker your skin tone, the more likely you are to grow dark, more obvious hairs. Second, if you have thick hair on your head, your body hair is likely to be similar. Third, side effects from medications such as steroids, anti-depressants, or the birth control pill are all thought to be contributing factors.

Removal Methods:
1. Waxing:
Facial waxing strips are readily available at chemists but are felt by skin experts to be too harsh for the delicate upper lip area. Excessive pulling and stripping at the skin can cause trauma.
2. Depilatory Creams:
These dissolve the hair from just below the surface of the skin using chemicals. Always patch test for allergies, and check n that the product you use is suitable for the face.
3. Shaving:
No expert would recommend shaving the delicate skin on a woman’s face, no matter how serious. Soft and delicate skin is unable to cope with the abrasions of a razor.
4. Laser Hair Removal:
This method uses a laser to deliver a high-density light providing heat energy. This heat damages or destroys the hair root, but is not effective on those with grey white, blonde or light red hair as the laser targets pigment. A course of treatments is required.
5. Electrolysis:
This method of hair removal passes a small amount of energy via a fine needle through the hair follicle. This produces heat that in turn destroys the root. A course of treatments is required.
6. Threading:
This is a skilled and effective way of removing hair from the root. Threaders use lengths of looped cotton to catch and pull out the hairs.
7. Plucking:

Plucking is a reliable method of removing hair – usually from the eyebrows. Don’t over-pluck the brows: stick to the natural lines, removing only strays.
