Spa Therapies Of India

Ayurveda:

Visit an ayurvedic spa in India and take a step back in time. Translated from the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit as the ‘Science of life’ – ayur (life), veda (knowledge) – Ayurveda is regarded by scholars as the oldest healing system in the world. And in many places in India, it is still practised in a charming, traditional way. Apart from sari-clad masseuses, fragrant incense burners, clay pots and droni (massage boards) are often the first welcoming images in the treatment rooms. In some cases traditional heritage homes have been transported for miles and reconstructed on spa sites to form a village setting where guests receive the country’s ancient therapies.

An Ayurvedic consultation begins the minute you walk through the door with the practitioner observing your gait and general appearance among other things. Questioning and palpitation, the other two forms of diagnosis, will enable the practitioner to determine your dosha type and the nature of your problem. Treatments range from external therapies, such as massage, to internal therapies, such as herbal medicine. In addition, the practitioner may make dietary and lifestyle recommendations.

Rituals start and end the Ayurvedic spa experience. The therapist begins by chanting a traditional prayer for your well-being, then slowly eases you into the treatment while keeping a hand protectively over your head. You maybe anointed with vermillion on your forehead and a special herb powder maybe applied on your head as a protective shield. Traditional Indian yogic chants are played according to the time of the day.
